The Hohe Tauern National Park region

The national park region is outstanding in its unique plant and animal life (10,000 animal species and 1,800 plant species). Sizeable colonies of ibex live here as well as bearded and griffon vultures, scarcely to be seen in other parts of Austria. With its area of 1,834km² spanning the three federal provinces of Tyrol, Carinthia and Salzburg, the Hohe Tauern National Park is the biggest natural reserve in the Alps and was the first of its kind in Austria when it was founded in 1981.

Here you can find the Nationalpark's current summer program 2023.

General information about the Nationalpark Hohe Tauern under hohetauern.at.

The largest protected natural environment in the Alps offers a myriad of options such as rambling, mountain hiking, rock climbing or even high alpine treks on which you can stop for refreshments or spend the night in rustic shelters, not to mention the breathtaking flora and fauna that can be seen in the park. We have, of course, a very exclusive service especially for our guests in order to let you get the most out of this natural wonder. This would not, however, work without our extremely competent and willing team and our very own mountain guides. Simply get the information you want at the info point we have set up for you and find out which discovery tour fascinates you the most. Apart from that you can take part for free in our own activities programme at your own leisure.
